In recent weeks there have been a number of Press articles around GM (Genetically Modified) contamination of American Long Grain Rice, during which time many Own Label Rice products have been removed from the shelves of supermarkets. This stems from contamination of US crops by Bayer GM rice strain LL601. GM Rice is not authorised for import or sale in the EU and so all US Rice imports are being held at ports until they are certified free of this GM Rice.
